First world problems!

After two past unsuccessful trips to Darwin (not with Anglers Choice), Brian was desperate to catch a barra! He originally booked to join us at Dundee Beach to fish in March but the wind was playing havoc and there was no way we were risking a 3rd trip in harsh conditions. We both agreed we should postpone his fishing charter till April. 

Fast forward 30 days and we pick up a very excited Brian from the Darwin airport. The pressure was on.  It was on Brian who felt he was jinxed and it was on us and Guide Josh to help Brians dreams come true.  Brian had also refused to eat barramundi until he landed one himself.  Fresh Barra was on the menu that night, was Brian going to starve?  That was the question on everyone’s lips.

We are very PLEASED to announce that Brian has a full belly and joined the Barra Club with this very solid 90cm saltwater barra!!! He also landed some very respectable threadfin salmon around the 90cm mark.

Did we mention that this was Birthday celebration? Happy Birthday Legend, you earned that beer!

Movember is one of our chosen charities and each year we donate a Darwin fishing package for a staff member or customer to raffle to raise funds for this worthy cause. This year our fishing guide Ian and some of his crazy generous mates (https://www.facebook.com/themoustacheskibrothers) rode jet skis from Newcastle to Harvey Bay (1200km) raising just over $30, 000 for the Movember Foundation.  Great effort team Moustacheski and we are proud to be a part of your achievements! The lucky raffle winners were Bill and Mel and they joined us at Dundee Beach last week to claim their fishing charter prize.  Mel was overall boat champion landing some very nice fish including some solid barramundi. #movember

The Million Dollar Fish competition draws fishing enthusiasts to Dundee Beach from all corners of Australia. Here’s what you need to know about its extension:

1. Season 9 Extension:

• The NT government has extended Season 9 of the Million Dollar Fish competition until 30 April 2024.
• This means that eager fishers have more time to cast their lines and try their luck at reeling in the elusive Million Dollar Fish.

Prize-Tagged Barramundi:

• In Season 9, over 100 prize-tagged barramundi have been released into five incredible fishing regions in the NT: Darwin, Dundee, Kakadu, Arnhem Land, Katherine, and the Tiwi Islands.
• Among these, there are now 80+ red-tagged fish worth a whopping $1 million swimming in the Top End waterways.
• Additionally, lucky anglers can also snag goodies from the Lucky Prize Pool.

Year-Round Excitement:

• While the official season runs from 1 October to 31 March, the eight fish carrying tags worth $1 million remain active year-round for those who registered for Season 9.
• So, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a novice angler, grab your mates and head to the NT for a fishing charter of a lifetime at Dundee Beach.
• Remember, it’s not just about the cash prize; it’s about the thrill of the catch, the camaraderie, and the unforgettable memories created along the way with the team at Anglers Choice.

Our very own Dundee Beach was recently named as one of Australia's TOP TEN beaches and to the residents of this incredibly unique location this comes as no surprise. Here are just a few reasons that we believe Dundee Beach has deserved its spot in the TOP TEN.

Turtles
As we sit on the balcony of our stunning Anglers Choice Beach House we look directly down onto what we call Five Mile Beach, an amazing stretch of coastline that takes you to the iconic Finniss River famous for barramundi fishing and mudcrabs.

Five mile beach is home to the endangered flatback turtle that comes ashore to nest each year generally between June to August. For this reason, it is important to avoid driving on the sand dunes especially during nesting season.

The best time to see the turtles is in the two hour period before and after high tide at night. When going to see the turtles it is best to go with minimal light as too much light will disturb them and may cause them to return to water without laying their eggs.

Dundee Beach Sunsets
Whilst visiting Santorni I heard about the magical sunsets from the clifftop town of Oia, proclaimed to be one of the best places on earth for sunset viewing. I had to check it out and yes it was beautiful, however, a sneaky voice in the back of mind was saying "I wish these people could see what we see at Dundee Beach every single night".

Dundee Beach sunsets need no introduction. Without fail every night mother nature turns on a spectacular display of ever-changing colour and brilliance. As the old saying goes; "It has to be seen to be believed.'

The Tree of Knowledge
Affectionately known as "The Tree of Knowledge" the big beauty leaf tree that towers over the Dundee Beach boat ramp is the meeting place for locals and tourists alike to share a coldie and to watch the many boats return from fishing each day. Fishing
Dundee Beach is a fishing mecca. Where else can you catch a Barramundi, black jewfish and a sailfish in the same day and from the same boat. The variety of species is unbelievable - to rephrase Forrest Gump, fishing at Dundee Beach is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to catch. Registrations are open for Australia's richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish. Season 7 started on 1 October 2021, but you can register now for free. Million Dollar Fish - Homepage

The competition runs until 31 March 2022, and offers anglers the opportunity to catch a barra worth a million bucks.

Any fisho can reel in the mill, and there are eight barra worth a million dollars and 100 tagged barra worth $10,000 swimming around Top End waterways including Dundee Beach.

In addition, every time a $10,000 barra is caught the lucky fisho can donate an additional $1,000 to a Million Dollar Fish Season 7 Charity Partner. It is pretty cool that you can win and share the love.

The lucky fish are released in multiple locations including Dundee Beach and according to the BOM the Northern Territory is set to experience one of our wettest wet seasons which should make for awesome run off barra fishing.

The wet season is technically January to mid-March but you can go fishing all-year-round in the Northern Territory weather permitting. Anglers Choice will be operating during the wet season this year so get in touch and BOOK in to HOOK in to a million buckaroos!
