Kakadu - Barramundi Dreaming.

BOOK NOW March - May 2005

The big barra hotspots in the Top End are within 300km of Darwin and one of our favourite locations to land whopper barramundi is Kakadu National Park. Only a handful of fishing tour operators are permitted to fish in Kakadu National Park.

The big river systems such as the South and East Alligator Rivers in Kakadu have some of the largest mudflats, floodplains, swamps and billabongs, which all combine to make a perfect breeding habitat for the monster female barramundi. After the wet season, the enormous floodplains of Kakadu “run off” into these big tidal rivers. The feeder creeks are alive with hungry barra and at the East and South Alligator; we find lots of monster barra’s waiting for a good feed or a lure or two.

Big tidal rivers are alive with hungry barra. Monster barra wait for a good feed

South Alligator River

The tidal reaches of the South Alligator span 120km of river and the many feeder creeks throughout the river fish extremely well for big barramundi. At the mouth of the river there are two islands that are surrounded by good reefs, perfect for jewfish and snapper fishing.

East Alligator

East Alligator Escarpment
East Alligator Escarpment

The East Alligator is as good a spot as any to tackle with a monster barra. You will also fish the famous Magela Creek and floodplains that drain into the East Alligator.

The East forms the boundary of Kakadu and Arnhemland and has some of the most spectacular scenery in the Top End. Experience the timeless beauty of the region as you cruise down the river to your next hot fishing spot.
