BOZOS BARRA FISHING IN JULY 2006

Winner - Tell a friend competition.

Late last year I was luckily enough to win a fishing trip by entering an online competition with Anglers Choice Fishing Safaris. So in July this year I took my new lures to the Northern Territory for some serious testing with Mick Mannix from Anglers' Choice. The tour was a 5 day barramundi and bluewater sport fishing safari to Dundee Beach located about 200km west of Darwin. I was joined by a lovely young lady called Jody and her dad.

Barramundi Black Jew

We spent the first few days chasing pelagics near the Perron Islands about 70km down the coast. The Perrons lie near the mouth of the Daly. We landed a heap of Queenies, tuna and mackerel which was great fun.

WHAT A DAYS FISHING ON THE FINNISS !!!!

Although I thoroughly enjoyed chasing the hard fishing pelagic fish, I was keen to catch some barra. The location was the Finniss River which is located 12 km up the coast from Dundee.

We used nothing but Bozos Lures and started the day by casting Bozos 6” rigged “Sanger” colour lures and landed 6 Black Jew the smallest 25lb and the largest 37lb all in about 2 hours. We then moved to a rock reef on the southern corner of South Perrin Island and landed 8 Queenfish the largest being 25lb. All these were caught trolling 6” rigged Bozos Mullet lures in colour “Pearler” (Qantas red/white). Then absolutely buggered we headed back to the Finniss River and pulled 8 Barra from one snag in 40 minutes casting Bozos 4” Mullet lures rigged with 14 gram jig heads.

QueenfishThis was great fun as these Barra acted more like a school of hungry Tuna busting up. One barra even jumped out of the water over a snag to get to a lure which blew us all away. Several other Barra were also caught casting lures of the same size including the 92cm shown above. Not bad for session of barra fishing in July.

This was with out a doubt the best fishing trips of my life and I am already booked to come back and fish the run off on board mothership Cape Adieu next year.
