A mind-blowing trip in March 2004 saw a Doctor (Pozzie), a Lawyer (Marcus) and a Psychiatrist (Lester) land 26 barra over a meter in 24 hours, that’s better than one barra per hour. To wet the appetite even further, 18 of those were over 110cm, the longest was 130cm with another two topping the scales at over 50-pound.

Our first session was casting big lures for whoppers, and it seemed that we had just arrived at the whopper barra convention, as the big girls were everywhere. Every cast saw the boys working the lures hard with the true anticipation that their lures were about to be smashed by a monster.
Day one returned great results with 16 meter plus barra landed and a further ten unstoppables that got away. That evening onboard our mothership we ate dinner then analysed the tides. Yep! It was time for a night session. In the pitch black, we motored back to our special spot and started casting. The big girls were still chewing but there was no way we could not see where they were going let alone stop them. We got smoked eight times in a row and went back to the mothership with our tails between our legs. Tomorrow is another day!
The crew were keen the next day and from the mothership, we left early and headed straight to our whopper spot. YEP ON!! First cast, another meter plus barra. This action continued and we landed another ten in this morning session and probably lost as many again.
Does barra fishing get any better than that? Only in your dreams!
